Police on Sunday found a body of nine-year-old girl in Surat with 86 injury marks.
Despite the Gujarat Police leaving no stone unturned to trace the identity of 11-year-old girl, who was reportedly murdered after brutal sexual assault for nearly a week, cops are clueless about the girl's family as well as the accused. The autopsy report also showed that there were severe injuries to the private parts of the girl. "We are trying to establish the identity of the girl", NDTV quoted police officer BK Jhala as saying.
At a time when the nation is boiling over Kathua and Unnao rape cases, another incident of same kind has been reported from Surat.
"The body of the 11-year-old girl was found around 6 am near a road next to a cricket ground by people on their morning walk".
Most injuries were apparently caused by a wooden-weapon, officials said.
On the other hand, Odisha DGP RP Sharma said he was informed about the matter by his Gujarat counterpart yesterday over phone. According to sources, the police has already seen profiles of about 8,000 girls, who have gone missing from different states.
Reportedly, the police believe that the murder took place at some different location but the body was dumped in Pandesara to probably mislead the investigation. "The victim's picture has been sent to the state police control room for the identification process". However, the identity of the victim was not known yet and none of her family has claimed the body. Cops have also announced a reward of Rs. 20,000 for relevant information.
"As a country, as a society we all are ashamed of it (rapes)", Prime Minister Narendra Modi said. "Our daughters will definitely get justice", the honorable PM added further.
In the Kathua case, the police charge sheet says the girl from the Bakarwal nomadic tribe was kidnapped, held in a temple in Kathua's Rasana village, drugged, repeatedly raped and then murdered to scare her community out of the neighbourhood.
Her family alleges that she was raped by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his accomplice a year ago.
