It is alleged that during the session to suspend Chiloba, the three commissioners who resigned on Monday walked out.
Magaya claimed that the three commissioners who resigned on Tuesday; Consolata Maina, Margaret Mwachanya and Paul Kurgat were part of a Ruto wing at the commission that was acting on the DP's instructions.
The resignations leave only two commissioners and the chairman at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) which last week sent its chief executive on three months' compulsory leave pending an audit on procurement matters.
"The Ruto wing of IEBC has quit simply because Ruto wants Chiloba back by all means. Consequently we regret to announce our resignation from the commission with immediate effect", they concluded.
The trio tendered their resignation letters on April 16 indicating they had stepped down effective immediately.
"The chairman has in several instances failed to be rye steady and stable hand to steer the commission ship", Ms Mwachanya said in a joint statement. "Instead, under his leadership the Commission's boardroom has become a venue for peddling misinformation, ground for brewing mistrust and a space for scrambling for and chasing individual glory and credit", they said in a joint statement. Given this severe deterioration of confidence in the chair, we find our position as commissioners under his leadership no longer tenable.
Experts said the effect of the latest move will destabilize the commission at a time it is preparing to conduct electoral boundaries review for the 2022 election, whereas Chiloba's absence will make it hard or impossible for the secretariat to operate because the CEO by law makes the day-to-day decisions which no other commissioner can. "The event related to the purported vote have greatly shaken our already feeble confidence in the chair".
