Trump and the White House later reversed their position on Comey's handling of the Clinton investigation, saying it was actually the reason the president unexpectedly fired him.
Trump tweeted "Comey drafted the Crooked Hillary exoneration long before he talked to her (lied in Congress to Senator G), then based his decisions on her poll numbers".
In his Monday morning tweet, Trump also accused Comey of lying to "Senator G".
Conway also referred to Comey's admission that he may have subconsciously expected Hillary Clinton to become the next president when he decided 11 days before the election to announce the reopening of an investigation into her emails.
Comey is carrying out a publicity campaign for his book, "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership", set for release Tuesday.
"I saw Jim Comey last night and I said 'this guy swung an election?' I don't think so", Conway told Chris Cuomo on CNN, shaking her head in disbelief at the notion. "Show me the swing states where she was above 50 percent on October 20 before Comey came out ..." Comey had only ever testified that no one in the Department of Justice had made such a request, Stephanopoulos said, but he has always maintained his claims about Trump.
McCabe's attorney has asserted publicly that emails show "that Mr. McCabe advised Director Comey that he was working with colleagues at the Federal Bureau of Investigation to correct inaccuracies before the stories were published, and that they remained in contact through the weekend while the interactions with the reporter continued".
Conway went on to say that Comey "struggled to answer basic questions", that he's giving "a revisionist version of history", (and, of course that Trump "hardly knew the man"). "He loved being alone in the Oval Office".
Comey agreed with Stephanopoulos that the possibility that Trump has been compromised is "stunning", but he suggested that he views it as unlikely.
Second, um, what? Conway said, "This guy swung an election. It's possible", said Comey.
