The teaser highlights the ups and downs in Dutt's life and the stages are perfectly portrayed by Ranbir who takes on an array of looks as he depicts the actor over the years.
Coming from a filmy background with parents like Guru Dutt and Nargis, Sanjay has hardly faced a struggle for finding work but his struggle-free life has only landed him in trouble many times.
Sanju is produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rajkumar Hirani, who is also the director. But Ranbir defended his choices taking all his flops in his stride, "I keep telling myself, it's just a bend it's not the end".
There is absolutely no denying the fact that Sanjay Dutt's life has been a roller coaster ride.
Going by the teaser, Ranbir Kapoor seems to have brilliantly pulled off Sanjay Dutt's look, a little more modulation in voice may had made him completely unrecognisable.
"His whole drug phase, the passing away of his mother two-three days before the premiere of his film, the controversy with terrorism, guns, his relationship with his father, best friend, the women in his life". When I was working on the film, it was a character I had to play. And then in typical Hirani fashion, and in a Munna Bhai accent, Ranbir introduces Dutt's life. "Still, we had to make him sign a legal paper so that we could show everything he told us on the big screen".
As a filmmaker, everyone has their own likes, I am more interested in human stories. This biopic was earlier scheduled to release in March, but later got shifted to 29 June. He said that he was in search of an actor who could be 21 because that is where the film begins. So we had a good prep time on the film.
The film has Manisha Koirala, Paresh Rawal, Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Boman Irani, Dia Mirza, Vicky Kaushal, among others in other lead roles.
