Trailing 1-0 in the second period Monday, the Golden Knights beat Martin Jones (1-2 with a 4.07 GAA in the series) with two straight power-play goals.
Vegas and San Jose each experienced both sides of that roller coaster the past two games, with the Golden Knights responding with William Karlsson's goal in overtime in Game 3 at the Shark Tank.
Vegas heads into a pivotal Game 5 on home ice Friday against the San Jose Sharks. It's also his second shutout of the 2018 playoffs and the sixth one of his postseason career. The series is tied at two games apiece, and who knows, maybe the bats will bring some luck to the team.
Later, with less than 20 seconds to go in the second as the Sharks were killing a tripping penalty to Couture, Jones stopped quality chances by William Karlsson and Marchessault, nearly in succession.
After an early giveaway led to a scoring chance for Vegas, Ryan fared well and stripped William Carrier of the puck to thwart a chance for the Golden Knights. "We've got to be ready to play, be ready to compete. We're starting to put some pucks in the net".
"Obviously their two power play goals swing the momentum in the second period, but I didn't think our discipline or penalties were a problem, just one of those nights", coach Peter DeBoer said.
"They're a really good team, too", DeBoer said. "That at least gives our defensemen a chance to get their gap and step up on so they're not flying through the neutral zone". He contributed 22 goals and 24 assists in 79 regular season games.
While Gordon represents Orlando in the National Basketball Association, he is a native of San Jose.
Vegas is 5-for-18 with the man advantage in this series after going 1-for-12 in a four-game sweep of the Los Angeles Kings in the first round.
"I thought we probably managed the puck a little bit better for the whole game", Jones said. The Knights have been lethal on home ice this season and are 31-12 in their last 43 at T-Mobile Arena but they are just 3-1 in the playoffs on home ice and will need a fast start and ride the energy of the crowd if they're going to retake the series lead and find a way to solve Martin Jones who looked excellent in the team's game four win.
"It's about staying disciplined during the game and having a full 60-minute effort so that we can play the way we want to play", he said.
