Amazon Go is the online retail pioneer's attempt to reinvent the physical store with the same mindset that brought one-click shopping to the internet. In San Francisco, an Amazon Go store could be placed near Union Square, although the exact location is expected to be revealed in the coming weeks due to necessary building permits.
Recode reported earlier this year that Amazon plans to open as many as six additional Amazon Go stores beyond the original Seattle location. In response to an inquiry, a spokesperson confirmed that the company was planning to open stores in each city, but didn't specify when. Customers simply have to download the Amazon Go app and scan a unique barcode that automatically identifies them when they walk into a store. There are still no more announcements about when future stores will be ready for the general public, but real-estate tracker Curbed has hunted down the locations selected by Amazon.
