Guillermo del Toro is bringing his brand of horror to Netflix with anthology series Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight, according to a Netflix release. Netflix describes the stories del Toro will select as "equally sophisticated and horrific".
With this first live-action series, del Toro and Netflix extend their collaboration, which began with the award-winning animated series Trollhunters. It was also confirmed that Del Toro will reteam with "The Shape of Water" producer J. Miles Dale, who serves as executive producer, along with Gary Ungar (Exile Entertainment). That show will return for its third and final season May 25. He has also dabbled in horror with The Strain TV series which is also based on a trilogy of books he helped to write. Del Toro is a longstanding fan of the original books, particularly Stephen Gammell's notorious illustrations, which he cites as being 'scary as fuck'. He's the mastermind behind some of the most iconic characters in cinematic history, including Hellboy, Pale Man from Pan's Labyrinth, and many others. He's now developing a horror anthology series for Netflix called 10 After Midnight. The film was nominated for 13 Oscars and took home wins in the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Production Design, and Best Original Music Score categories. His horror genre credentials are without question, including titles such as Blade II, Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Netflix also picked up anthology horror series Slasher past year from defunct Canadian channel Chiller. When will it premiere? But if its structure is anything like Black Mirror, then anyone can supposedly jump in and start an episode without having to worry about multi-episode arcs.
We can't wait to find whatever monsters del Toro has dragged out from under our beds. As always, if you have anything to share, feel free to sound them off in the comments section below!
