IPO candidate Xiaomi Inc. consolidated its position as India's leading smartphone brand in the first quarter of 2018, while the struggling Lenovo dropped out of the fast-growing market's top-five vendor list for the first time in four years, according to data-tracking firm IDC.

Xiaomi recently unveiled the Redmi S2 in China touting it as the Best Selfie Smartphone, and it won't be a surprise if Xiaomi India launches it in the sub-continent. And now, it is expected to reach India - as soon as June 7 - not as the Redmi S2 but as the Redmi Y2.
Xiaomi Redmi S2 comes with a 5.99-inch HD+ (1440 × 720 pixels) 2.5D curved glass display that features 18:9 aspect ratio. This SoC houses an octa core processor and gets the Mali-T830 MP2 GPU for graphics.
The 3GB+32GB Redmi S2 has been priced at CNY999 (Approximately Rs 10,500), while the 4GB+64GB will come at CNY1,299 (Approximately Rs 13,500). An internal email sent by Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun to the employees reveals that they are gearing up to establish an integrated camera department to enhance the image quality.
JioPhone, paired with Reliance Jio's Rs 49 plan disrupted the market in the January-March quarter, in the feature phone segment, and was followed by Samsung at 10.4%, Transsion at 7.9%, Lava at 6% and Micromax at 4.7%. Xiaomi claims that it is going to be the "best Redmi selfie phone".
Cameras have become the real litmus test for top-flight flagship phones in recent years. Therefore, it comes fitted with a 16MP front-facing shotter for taking selfies.
In the case of connectivity, the phone has a dual SIM 4G volt slot with a micro-SD card. The device sports a fingerprint sensor on the back and an Infrared sensor also. Both variants will go on sale in China starting May 17 in Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver, and Rose Gold colour options. The device is a 3,080 mAh battery power and the phone will run Android 8.1 Oreo with Xiaomi's custom MIUI 9 skin.
