Iceland based low-cost airline Wow Air Ehf is entering India with tickets to U.S. priced at $199 from December 7 onwards.
Operating three times a week, the route from Iceland to Delhi will be serviced by the airline's new A330neo wide body jet liner, increasing to five times per week from January 2019.
The new routes will provide millions of Americans easy access to India. It is also a major milestone for WOW air, as we are now connecting Asia with our extensive network in North America and Europe, making Iceland a global hub.
The service will start on 7th December. According to available data, about 20,000 Indians travel to North America on a daily basis. The "Wow basic" one-way fare includes all taxes but excludes meals and check-in baggage, said an NDTV report quoting PTI. So flying between India and North America via Reykjavik is the shortest one-stop flights. "We are passionate about continuing our mission of enabling everybody to fly by making worldwide travel accessible and affordable for all, and look forward to expanding our global service to provide travellers with the opportunity to see many parts of the globe, whether for business or pleasure".
It flies to 35 European and North American destinations, and it would be competing with aggressive Middle-eastern hubs like Dubai and Abu Dhabi which are catering for a large worldwide traffic originating from India. The offer applies for 4200 seats on selected flights, only when booked on a return trip.
However, to be fair, even after including all the extras to the introductory fare is still cheaper than established players, especially the West Asian ones.
The first flights to New Delhi take off in December.
With crude oil prices rising, Mogensen says that he's not that anxious unless the prices go beyond $100 a barrel.
"In the basic fare, we offer a seat and a small carry-on like a laptop bag". When someone comes to Iceland, we can offer best prices on hotels, auto rentals, and restaurants.
