According to The Playlist, as well as several other outlets, Kennedy "confirmed" at the Cannes Film Festival that a Lando Calrissian spinoff film would be next up, telling Premiere France, "We think that the next spin-off will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian". "Following the publication of our article Lucasfilm informs us that there would have been a misunderstanding between our journalist and Kathleen Kennedy", the publication wrote. It is the second in a series of planned standalone "Star Wars" movies meant to exist outside the main trilogies.
Solo: A Star Wars Story is hitting theaters on May 25th. Kennedy instead said something akin to the Lando Calrissian movie being something she'd like to do some day, but there are no concrete plans for it to be the next spin-off just yet.
In addition to the Lando movie, there's also rumors that pre-production has already begun for an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off film.
As told and re-told by French cinema publication Premiere, Kennedy acknowledged the reality that a Lando movie would be an enjoyable endeavor.
Solo: A Star Wars Story is out on May 24. "When I heard they were making these, I told my agent, 'if they're making anything with Lando in it, I have to be Lando, '" he said over the weekend during a Solo press day.
What's great about Lando Calrissian is that there's still so much we don't know about him.
It's nearly a no brainer to give the character and actor combination of Lando Calrissian and Donald Glover a shot at headlining a movie sometime down the line.
We receive a little taste of it within the Lando Marvel Comics series, which is second only to both Darth Vader run. More Donald Glover makes the galaxy a better place for us all.
