USA rapper TI has been arrested on disorderly conduct and public drunkenness charges as he tried to enter his gated community outside Atlanta. Media reports say the Grammy-winning artist, whose real name is Clifford Harris, had lost his key and the guard wouldn't let him into the community.
"Tip was wrongfully arrested early this morning when he attempted to gain entrance into his gated community - where his wife "Tiny" and his family reside", reads Saddow's statement.
Police also say T.I. did NOT make physical contact with the security guard, but the guard feared he would be hit during the dispute. Then, the "Dope" performer and his pal began arguing with the guard.
Sadow claims police did not want to hear from T.I.'s side and arrested his client. The rapper was charged with public drunkenness, simple assault and disorderly conduct. The rapper was released from the Henry County Jail about 8 a.m. Wednesday after posting $2,250 bond.
T.I. reportedly plans to file a lawsuit against his home owner's association.
According to Tip, his arrest is ultimately a result of calling out his gated community's security guard for sleeping on the job.
T.I.'s attorney, Steve Sadow, said in a statement that the rapper was "wrongfully arrested".
According to WSB-TV in Atlanta, police say that T.I.at one point asked the guard, "Don't you know who I am?"
Since his release, T.I. has addressed the issue in an Instagram livestream while attending his son's classroom birthday celebration in which he referred to the arrest as "nonsense" and "small potatoes."
Despite the headline-generating bust, Tip didn't spend much time in police custody or have to stand before a judge. "The guard was sound asleep when Tip arrived at the guardhouse". The guard continued to refuse entry without justification.
Sadow said T.I. identified himself and sought entry, but the guard refused. "The guard refused entry".
