RJD former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav of Bihar, taking the reference of Karnataka, has now demanded that his party should be allowed to form the government as people's mandate proved his party as the single largest in the 2017 assembly elections.
Rahul Gandhi, the 47-year-old heir to India's Nehru-Gandhi political dynasty who took over as Congress party president from his mother in December, said the BJP's decision to form the government in the state without a clear majority support was a mockery of the country's constitution.
Earlier on Thursday, the Supreme Court refused to stay the swearing-in after a rare post-midnight courtroom battle unfolded dramatically over the Congress-JD (S) combine's legal push to stall government formation. The SC Bench, comprising Justices A.K. Sikri, S.A. Bobde and Ashok Bhushan, was hearing the petitions by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President Dr. G. Parameshwara and JD-S President H.D. Kumaraswamy. Later in the evening on May 15, Congress reached out to JD (S) and offered an unconditional support to form the government with JD (S) Karnataka Chief HD Kumuraswamy as CM.
Sources said the Congress and the JD (S) are concerned about the safety of their legislators, whom they feel the BJP will poach while misusing the central agencies and the state machinery.
Anand Singh was originally with the BJP before he switched side to join the Congress.
Arguing for the Union of India, Attorney General K.K. Venugopal said: "we don't know what happened in exchanges between Governor and Yeddyurappa, or what he has said in his letter".

Kumaraswamy also asked non-BJP parties to unite and requested his father and former prime minister Deve Gowda to take the initiative. The Congress and JD (S) are together and protested against the unconstitutional and undemocratic decision of the Governor which was also against the Supreme Court judgement delivered 14 months ago.
