New and iconic videos from "God's Plan" and "Havana" to "Thriller", "Sledgehammer", and more. The feature will be rolling out soon in the latest version of the YouTube app.
MANILA, Philippines - Google's launched a rebranding and splitting up of what was formerly known as YouTube Red. He declined to share the amount, but YouTube has run sizable campaigns before, including buying prominent billboard space to promote home-grown stars. With the pricier YouTube Premium, you'll get the ad-free YouTube viewing, original programming, video downloads, and background play that you get now with YouTube Red, plus the features of YouTube Music Premium, which launches on May 22.
YouTube has been at odds with the music industry for years, said Rob Sanderson, an analyst at MKM Partners.
YouTube does not disclose how many people pay for YouTube Red, its premium service. A YouTube spokeswoman declined to comment.
YouTube Premium, meanwhile, is YouTube Music's ad-free version, along with original series and movies from YouTube. The paid subscription also permits background listening and downloads. Spotify recently said it reached 75 million paid users. Apple chief executive Tim Cook said during a recent interview on Bloomberg TV that the service now has 50 million users, combining paying subscribers and people on free trials.
Spotify shares slipped 1.6 percent to $158.74 in NY trading on Thursday afternoon.
Now listen to your favorite music artist, watch Beyonce's Livestream or discover the new music, it's all here, at a single place, YouTube Music. And the marketing campaign is a chance to clear up confusion.
Free, ad-supported accounts will be available, while the subscription tier, YouTube Music Premium, will cost $9.99 (about £7.40) a month.
The video service, which includes shows like Karate Kid-inspired "Cobra Kai", will be priced at Dollars 11.99 and include ad-free music. That's a redo of a previous offering called YouTube Red.
Current users of Google Play Music will be automatically transferred to new service with all their playlists and collections will remain intact.
But what's different? Why should you, who is happily subscribed to Spotify, cancel that subscription, and flip on over to YouTube Music? Google Assistant reportedly plays a larger role in the app's discovery abilities, while music and playlist recommendations will be made based on your location. It will also apparently offer "an audio experience and a video experience", suggesting perhaps an emphasis on music videos and other visual content. "They wanted ad-supported and subscription".
