Reports indicate that an officer was shot in the head at just after 2 p.m. on Monday afternoon while investigating suspicious behavior on Linwen Way (21236), near the intersection of Belair Road at Klausmier Road.
UPDATE 4: Police say the officer was wearing a body camera and the footage is now being reviewed.
Vinson said the family of the officer, who would have been a four-year veteran in July, has been notified, but police didn't immediately identify her. She was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead at 2:50 p.m. Shawn Vinson said Monday evening that heavily armed police - backed by trained dogs and aircraft - were conducting the wide manhunt in and around Perry Hall, Maryland, where the office was fatally injured Monday afternoon.
Rifle-toting police swarmed into a Baltimore suburb where a female officer was fatally injured Monday, searching for suspects believed to be armed after witnesses reported hearing a pop and seeing the officer run over by a Jeep.
"We are proud of the bravery and the courage and the sacrifice of all the men and women who serve in our police force", Jones said. "One of the officers must have gotten out of the auto, I'm not sure if gunfire was exchanged or if they ran over her, but she was laying in the street", she said.
The police officer died Monday while responding to a possible burglary.
According to the Sun account, the witness told his father that he saw the officer draw her gun on a vehicle and order the occupants out. The officers who died at the hands of gunshots is up.
A statement of probable cause dated Tuesday identified the officer as Amy Caprio. An unmarked auto with law enforcers, including one officer cradling a rifle in the back seat, drove past and was waved through by police manning the intersection.
Logan Kurek, who is a volunteer firefighter, said he heard his younger brother "frantically screaming" and ran outside to perform CPR.
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan tweeted out his condolences Monday.
Amendt said his wife also ran outside and tried to revive the officer.
"We are confident that the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be brought to justice", said Julian Jones, chair of the Baltimore County Council.
"I heard, 'Get out of the car!' 'Get out of the car!' Get out of the car!' at least three times, and then a pop", Amendt said. It's a quiet community.
The police department tweeted: 'Residents in the area of Belair Road and Klausmeier Road should shelter in place due to ongoing #BCoPD incident. Drivers were advised to avoid the area. Police specified that three schools-Perry Hall Elementary, Seven Oaks Elementary and Gunpowder Elementary-were "being held over on alert status due to active police activity in the area", and said students were not being dismissed. Parents are being told to contact school administrators for further instructions.
