So, it comes down to this - voters are going to pick a new premier but they are generally anxious about giving that person - whether it's Doug Ford or the NDP - too much power. Some polls show the projected Liberal seat count is so low that the party is in danger of losing its official status at Queen's Park.
Wynne, who has been making her own last-ditch appeal to both Liberal and NDP voters to go with her as the voice of pragmatic experience, has also tried to frame the election as between her and Ford's Progressive Conservatives - despite polls suggesting the Liberals are trailing badly.
"It would be great if all of us agreed that inclusion and acceptance of difference was what we believed in and we shared that value system", Wynne said. After Thursday, I will no longer be Ontario's Premier.
"It became clear - and she conceded [that] - that she can not win the election".
But judging from the way she's skated around hard issues during this election campaign, she probably couldn't really tell you. It's about the people of this province.
NDP Leader Andrea Horwath is stumping for votes in the GTA, where she's scheduled an announcement and a campaign event in Toronto, before heading to Mississauga tonight where she'll attend an Iftar dinner.
Ms. Horwath sent a letter to Ontario's Integrity Commissioner on Friday morning, asking the office to probe the findings of The Globe's investigation.
Doug Ford wants Ontario municipalities to have the same kind of strong-mayor system as many big cities in the USA, saying a more powerful chief magistrate would be preferable to the "free-for-all" of current councils.
Brenna Keatinge, a self-described "very progressive" Toronto resident in the normally Liberal riding of St Paul's, said she used to consider voting Liberal when the party seemed the only viable contender against the Conservatives.
Ford has said a Tory government would run deficits for the first two or three years, but his plan doesn't spell out the size of those deficits, a path to balance or a way to start paying down the debt.
"It's a realization that the Kathleen Wynne brand might be more detrimental than the Liberal party brand", she said.
"We must work domestically to make Ontario and Canada more competitive".
Cochrane explains that the Liberals and New Democrats have offered "virtually identical" policies in recent years, which means many traditional Liberal supporters are "primed to vote NDP". Wynne's own riding was not one the Liberal source listed.
"They're for the working people".
As Premier, I've tried to dedicate myself to fighting for those people.
"Our health care system and our education system has been cut so much", said Stockdale, a health educator.
I knew there was a chance that I would end up in the opposition because, after 15 years, it's normal that there'd be a changing of the guard. She said she had been vocal in her support of the industry.
