Both fighters fought in March, with Wilder defeating Luis Ortiz in a thrilling, come-from-behind fight where he was almost finished, while Joshua scored a lackluster win on the scorecards over Joseph Parker.
But 32-year-old WBC champion Wilder uploaded a message to his Twitter and Instagram accounts piling pressure on Joshua to take the fight, declaring he would accept the unified WBA, IBF, and WBO champion's deal to travel to the UK.
"We have agreed to the terms that Eddie has put out to us for a fight in the U.K.", Finkel told ESPN.
Wilder posted the above tweet before his manager, Shelly Finkel, confirmed to ESPN that they had finally agreed to the terms set out by Joshua and promoter Eddie Hearn.
Wilder announced today that he accepted Joshua's offer to fight in the United Kingdom next up and has also given him the option of going to the USA too of $50 million.
Hearn recently claimed that a deal to fight mandatory WBA challenger Povetkin was "virtually done" but there's no telling how much of that was a clever ploy to force Wilder's hand and if that's what the Matchroom boss intended, he's absolutely nailed it. "We want the fight next, we've signed the contract and we're ready to go". "Not as good as we feel it should be, but we want the fight, and we're willing to take what they offered", Finkel said. Finkel said they accepted a guaranteed purse but did not get a percentage of the overall event that they wanted, meaning Wilder was likely offered a large enough guarantee above $15 million to make it worthwhile to forgo a percentage.
"We've had some great nights with [Carlos] Takam and [Wladimir] Klitschko and [Joseph] Parker and he wants to make sure that this history-making fight takes place in the UK". "But obviously this Canelo fight on September 15 makes it a little more hard with U.S. TV".
Wilder has won an incredible 39 fights on his unblemished 40-victory record by knockout and has defended the WBC title seven times in a row since winning it three years ago. But we need to get the contract back from Deontay Wilder - then we will know if this is bluster or if he is serious'.
