Donald Trump's tirade against Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's statement after the G7 summit may not have been related to Ottawa's stance on USA tariffs on steel and aluminum, Canadian based media The Star reported.
"Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around", Trudeau said after the summit ended in controversy.
Having left the G-7 summit in Canada early, Mr Trump's announcement that he was backing out of the joint communique torpedoed an already-fragile consensus on the trade dispute between Washington and its top allies. "Not fair to the PEOPLE of America!" he tweeted.
British Prime Minister Theresa May said on Monday that a meeting of the Group of Seven leaders in Canada had been "difficult" and that countries had to avoid taking unilateral action in order to protect the global trading system. And add to that the fact that the USA pays close to the entire cost of NATO-protecting many of these same countries that rip us off on Trade (they pay only a fraction of the cost-and laugh!). "Chief among them are Canada's extraordinarily high tariffs on American dairy products".
"He really kind of stabbed us in the back", he said. "The prime minister said nothing he hasn't said before - both in public, and in private conversations with the president".
"There are always irritants in relationships", Pompeo said while in Singapore for a summit between Trump and North Korea's Kim Jong Un.
"We should review that in the context of a president who's clearly abusing the national security category as a justification for imposing tariffs", Welch said.
Former prime minister Brian Mulroney predicts Donald Trump's unprecedented diatribe against Justin Trudeau is a passing storm.
He said there's still hope that stalled negotiations for a modernized North American Free Trade Agreement can be revived, provided Canada stays calm and measured in response to Trump's rants.
Donald Trump has been tweeting about his excitement to meet Kim Jong Un while pushing USA allies further away with trade war threats.
Sometimes described as a "mini-Obama", not least due to his omnipresent smile, Trudeau is clearly far closer in his political alignments to the US Democratic Party than Trump's Republicans. Minimum is 17B. Tax Dairy from us at 270%.
Things got worse for trade between the US and Canada as our neighbors to the north announced retaliatory tariffs in response to the Trump administration's tariffs on steel and aluminum from Canada and other USA allies.
