China says its tariffs will follow the same timeline as the new US ones, with the first wave hitting July 6, targeting 545 USA goods worth about $34 billion, including soybeans, whiskey, orange juice, electric cars, salmon and cigars. Goods like televisions and birth control, which had initially been proposed for inclusion, were removed from the final tariff list. Beijing earlier drew up a list of $50 billion in USA products that would face retaliatory tariffs, including beef and soybeans, a shot at Trump's supporters in rural America. Affected products include beef, pork, poultry, fish and seafood, dairy products, vegetables, mushrooms, fruits, nuts, sorghum, other grains, soybeans, whiskey, orange juice, tobacco, and conventional, hybrid and electric passenger vehicles. The ministry announced Friday that it will immediately add tariffs of "equal scale and equal strength" on USA products. "This move is not only damaging bilateral interests but also undermining the world trade order".

He said of the Chinese, "I don't think they would cower or immediately run to the negotiating table to throw themselves at the mercy of Donald Trump".

China went on to call for other countries to join it in pressuring the U.S.to end the trade war.

Trump's tariffs may also influence his efforts to bring peace to the Korean peninsula following his summit with leader Kim Jong Un this week in Singapore. It also added, "China is a powerful guardian and has enough ammunition to defend existing trade rules and fairness".
