Dan Pfeiffer, who was one of Obama's longest-serving advisers later posted a video of the exchange together with the comment: "The Fox propaganda gets more shameless every day".
Based on Homeland Security policy and what CBS News has seen in person, claims that all kids are being separated from their parents at the border is false. One girl repeatedly asks to be put in touch with an aunt, reeling off a number she had memorized.
Democrats went on the counterattack, with top House Democrat Nancy Pelosi calling the Republican proposal "simply unworthy of America".
"When a child is apprehended with their parents, DHS is required, due to various court rulings, to release the child within 20 days", she said. "I would cite you to the Apostle Paul and his clear and wise command in Romans 13, to obey the laws of the government because God has ordained them for the goal of order", he said Thursday.
"The United States will not be a migrant camp and it will not be a refugee holding facility, it won't be", Trump said.
The lawmakers in Elizabeth waited about 90 minutes to gain access to the detention facility, which is operated for the U.S. government by a private contractor.
TRT World's Kevin McAleese brings more from Washington, DC. "It could take place quickly".
"Rather than taking responsibility for their actions, and some of them are, (like) the attorney general and the secretary of homeland security, . the president says, 'it's not my fault, I didn't do it, '" Pelosi continued.
"Where is the outcry for the killings and crime being caused by gangs and thugs, including MS-13, coming into our country illegally?" he added.
Said Nielsen of the children: "Don't believe the press". Changes to these laws need to be addressed starting today. "That can not be the answer".
And shortly after President Donald Trump's inauguration, Nielsen's predecessor, John Kelly, raised the idea of separating families specifically as a deterrent. They are supposed to be reunited with their children at that point.
It isn't too far-fetched to suggest the administration is committing child abuse. At one point, NY magazine's Olivia Nuzzi played audio, published by ProPublica earlier, that recorded border patrol agents mocking weeping child migrants separated by their parents.
"These children have been traumatized on their trip up to the border, and the first thing that happens is we take away the one constant in their life that helps them buffer all these terrible experiences", Kraft said on CNN Monday.
She will end up apologizing, though, I expect. Do you know someone else we should interview for this story? "This administration has a simple message - If you cross the border illegally, we will prosecute you".
