The 73-year-old father of Meghan Markle surprised the world on Monday when he gave his first televised interview on the morning show, Good Morning Britain, with Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.
"Meghan cried, I'm sure, she did cry, and they both said, "Take care of yourself, we are really anxious about you", said Markle, 73, recounting the moment when he told his daughter he would not be able to attend the wedding.
Thomas Markle is a 1962 graduate of Newport High School in Perry County, Pennsylvania.
Meghan Markle's father has apologized for staging photos in the days leading up to his daughter's wedding to Prince Harry, who was made to promise he would never hurt his daughter before he granted permission for them to marry.
"I was very proud and I couldn't see a better moment in my life", Markle said.
Thomas admitted he "cried" watching his daughter's special day on TV, adding, "I was very upset it wasn't me, but the whole world was watching my daughter".
"Thomas Markle says he feels like a "footnote in one of the greatest moments in history" after he was unable to attend his daughter's wedding to Prince Harry".
Less than a week after her first road trip with Queen Elizabeth, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is back in the royal saddle - or carriage, as it were - attending opening day at the Royal Ascot.
"She's wanted children for a long time", he said.
"My daughter is very intelligent", he said.
The interview saw the recluse claim that Harry had said he was "open" to Brexit and that people needed to "give Trump a chance". "I think he was open to the experiment [of Brexit]". "Prince Charles admires Meghan for her strength and the backbone she gives Harry, who needs a tungsten-type figure in his life as he can be a bit of a softy", a source told the publication.
The newly appointed Duke and Duchess of Sussex were in their finery at the weekend for a family wedding as the pair watched Harry's cousin Celia McCorquodale get married. "There's got to be a child in the making, somewhere soon".
Royal sources have maintained, however, they have done everything they can to help and guide Mr Markle, and say he is a proud man who finds it hard to accept assistance from his daughter.
The Duchess of Cambridge politely declined her invite every year - until 2016 to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday.
