With streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal now dominating the market, YouTube Music comes in to offer access to its catalog of remixes, live performances, covers and music videos that aren't available elsewhere.
Google notes that the advantage YouTube Music will have over competitors like Spotify are its "thousands of playlists, the official versions of millions of songs, albums, artist radio and more, in addition to all the music videos people expect from YouTube".
YouTube Premium gives users everything inside YouTube Music, plus access to a library of video content.
YouTube Premium ($11.99) is the replacement of YouTube Red ($9.99) and includes YouTube Music Premium ($9.99) access. "For the first time, all the ways music moves you can be found in one place", Elias Roman, product manager, YouTube Music said in a statement. The third tier is called YouTube Premium, which is just a replacement for YouTube Red, which costs $12.
On top of YouTube Music, Google is also launching YouTube premium which means you can enjoy ad-free videos and access YouTube Originals. The new $11.99-per-month subscription will include the YouTube Music service, and could be the rebranding the service needs to come to the UK.
Almost three years after launching YouTube Red, the company is ditching the name in favor of YouTube Premium, a newly expanded subscription service.
"Making the world of music easier to explore and more personalized than ever". YouTube Music Premium will be available on a standalone basis for US$9.99 per month (US price). YouTube Premium will also offer ad-free viewing, background play and downloads for offline viewing. Premium subscribers that ditch Music will not benefit from the option. "We will continue to invest in programmes to support creators, and encourage more diversity and distribution of their content", said Robert Kyncl, Chief Business Officer, YouTube.
