Corey Lewandowski tried to dismiss criticism of the administration's policy of separating immigrant families during a Fox News interview Tuesday by mocking a 10-year-old girl with Down syndrome who had been separated from her mother after illegally crossing the border.
Lewandowski worked as campaign manager for Trump during the U.S. president's 2016 campaign. But Lewandowski was unmoved, responding with a derisive "sad trombone" sound - "womp, womp!" as Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo described it. "How dare you, how absolutely dare you sir, how dare you".
The girl's case was originally highlighted by Mexico's Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray in an interview with CNN.
"What I said is you can pick anything you want to, but the bottom line is very clear: When you cross the border illegally you have given up the rights of that country", Lewandowski said.Читайте также: Theresa May Promises £20 Billion Annual Boost To NHS
Despite being fired from the Trump campaign in 2016, Lewandowski appears to have regained the president's approval.
Petkanas, a former Hillary Clinton campaign staffer who went on to run a "Trump War Room" for the Democratic National Committee according to The Hill, snapped at Lewandowski's seemingly unfeeling response to the story of the Down's Syndrome child. Their father, a legal USA resident, is working with the U.S. consulate to get the girl released.
Images and audio from the border, of crying children wrenched from their families by government officials, have sparked serious uproar over Trump's "zero-tolerance policy".
