Dutch police on Monday (June 18) arrested the driver of a delivery van that hit festival-goers in the Netherlands, killing one and injuring three, a statement said.

The condition of the three injured people is not yet known.

Prosecutor Daniele Weymar said at a press conference the suspect, a 34-year-old Dutchman from the city of Heerlen, not far from the concert, had called police himself and was taken into custody in Amsterdam, 220 km (140 miles) to the north.

Visitors leave the festival grounds near a scene where a van struck into people after a concert at the Pinkpop festival in Landgraaf, the Netherlands on Monday.

The 34-year-old man in is now in custody and is being held on suspicion of manslaughter and attempted manslaughter.

The 35-year-old man who died as a result of the crash was a local festival volunteer, per BBC.

The white van struck around 4:00am (0200 GMT), police said, four hours after the headline act, R&B artist Bruno Mars, had performed in front of 70,000 people.

Pinkpop is held in Landgraaf, a small town near the German and Belgian borders.

The police did not reveal any details about the victims' identity, but did say that they attended the festival over the weekend, NU.nl reports. Mars closed out the concert shortly before midnight.

The organisation said in a statement on social media that it was "deeply shocked" and added that their 'thoughts are with victims and their families'.
