Some passengers aboard the nearby boat were anxious that their vessel could also catch fire if they got too close.
Stefanie Schaffer, one of the victims on board the vessel, was identified as an American. Relatives said Stefanie, a dancer and avid soccer player, was sitting at the back of the boat by the engine when the explosion occurred.
Only the American woman died.
The Vermont Center for Dance Education said Ms Schaffer had been a part of their "dance family" for years.
'I would say probably three minutes into the ride is when the right side of the boat exploded. According to online records, Maleka Jackson has also lived in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Stefanie Schaffer, 22, of Rutland, was left in critical condition, with both her legs amputated.
A GoFundMe page set up to help cover medical and travel expenses for the Schaffer family has raised over $100,000 within one day. "The kind words and prayers are very much needed and appreciated", the most recent update reads on the page.
Among the injured was Stefanie Schaffer, 22, a dancer whose injuries necessitated a double leg amputation below the knee, ABC News reports.
"The next challenge is to get Stefanie and Stacey to the US for more medical care". Please keep the love and prayers for Stefanie.
Stephanie's sister, Brooke, suffered minor injuries, Brian said, while the girls' mother sustained some broken bones and "we believe some internal bleeding, as well", he added.
