Lighter and smaller than the Surface Pro, the Surface Go features dimensions of 9.6-by-6.9-by-0.3 inches and weighs just 1.2 pounds.
Connectivity-wise, there's the Surface Connect port and USB Type-C 3.1, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack and MicroSDXC.
Speaking of battery life and charging the device, the Surface Go supports USB-C, first introduced to the Surface line with the Surface Book 2. For $399 you get 4GB RAM, 64GB of eMMC storage, and Windows 10 Home. Both variants of the Surface Go are powered by Intel's 7th generation Pentium Gold 4415Y processor.
The Surface Go's price is deceptively cheap; with the cost of accessories, the price quickly increases.
So what's unique about the Surface Go?
You can choose 4 or 8GB lpddr3 RAM and SSD capacities of 64, 128 and 256GB. Microsoft hasn't commented on the Surface Dial support though. This means that not only can this tablet's storage be expanded, but it has two methods of hardwired docking and display expansion to the iPad's one, thanks to the mainstay Surface Connect port.
Worst of all, the bezels are insanely large, making Surface Go look quite ugly. The Surface Go will be pitted against Apple's $329 iPad.
Then, more details about the $400 Surface tablet, which is apparently called Surface Go, emerged last week.
The Surface Go kickstand also utilizes a brand new hinge that allows it to extend 165 degrees so that you can go from tablet mode to studio mode when you want to write or draw on it. Consumers will receive the device with Windows 10 Home in S mode, while commercial customers will have the option for Windows 10 Pro.
The Surface Go should provide plenty of endurance. It is in stark contrast with its strategy for the Surface Laptop and the other ill-fated Windows 10 S edition which had "education" all over it. The standard black Type Cover is priced at $99, while the top-of-the-line Signature Cover with 1mm of actual key travel is priced at $129.
The Surface Go is has a release date of 2 August and you can pre-order it starting 10 July.
To appreciate the fighting strength of the Surface Go, you'll have to consider the whole package and where it stands against the competition.
