Los Angeles County Sheriff's officials said the woman allegedly confronted the elderly man because he bumped into the child.
According to Mendoza, the woman in the video pushes him to the floor before grabbing a brick and beating him with it.
Detective Matt Luna said that "as he fell on the ground, he blacked out" after the girl's mother hit him from behind.
Rodriguez, who doesn't understand English, still has no idea why he was attacked, his grandson, Erik Mendoza, told KCBS.
"We are concerned, especially with the type of crime they committed", says a sheriff's deputy, noting a 4-year-old child apparently witnessed the attack.
The GoFundMe page for Rodriguez has already doubled its original goal of $15,000.
Rodolfo Rodriguez had just finished eating his dinner and went for his daily walk around the block.
"[They said] 'Go back to your country, why are you here?' Bad things", she said, quoting the witness. Rodriguez is a legal U.S. resident, according to Independent.
The woman who took the video says he was struck with a piece of concrete several times in the head.
Borjas added that the female suspect also tried to attack her when she tried to help Rodriguez, using "the same rock" that she had been using on Rodriguez.
According to the witness who jumped out of her vehicle and started filming the beating, the child's mother said, 'Oh, he tried to touch my girl.' with the witness vehemently refuting the mother, telling KCBS, 'I saw everything, this is a lie.
'Who would do this to anybody?' Mendoza told via KCBS. 'A 92-year-old senior citizen, what can he do to anybody? "He's 92 years of age". Nobody shouldn't even harm him 'cause I wouldn't want to see nobody hurting my father or mother.
"We just lost our son", she said in Spanish through tears, "and to see him like this was unbearable".
Rodriguez, who was interviewed by investigators, doesn't remember much about the incident, but he was able to identify his alleged attacker in the video. There are no current leads on the three or four male suspects who beat Rodriguez.
