Even many members of the President's own party rebuked his statements from almost the moment he departed the Finnish capital.

Justice Department officials were mindful of Trump's upcoming meeting with Putin and discussed the timing of the indictment with the President, but no decisions were made at the meeting.

The push by conservatives for a bill that was introduced in January by Rubio and Democratic Sen.
During his news conference along side Putin in Helsinki on Monday, Trump stated he didn't see "any reason" why Russian Federation was responsible for hacking the 2016 election, as USA intelligence agencies have found.
If the bill passes, the White House must also provide Congress with a plan to prevent foreign interference in USA elections from China, Iran and North Korea, three countries identified by the Director of National Intelligence as potential cyber threats in future US elections.
Because outmanoeuvring Trump does not mean he outmanoeuvred the U.S. political class.
Also charged one day later was Maria Butina, a 29-year-old Russian national charged with using contacts she built up within the National Rifle Association (NRA) to facilitate communications between Russian officials from the Kremlin and a US political party that was not named in the court documents.
Rubio's bill, if passed, codifies specific penalties for the Russians that must be implemented within 10 days if the Director of National Intelligence determines that interference took place.
The New York Times says Trump's comments drew "howls of protests from Democrats and some Republicans", and prompted John O. Brennan, who served as Central Intelligence Agency director under Barack Obama, "to suggest that the remarks warranted Mr. Trump's impeachment".
Trump claimed he meant to say the opposite - he doesn't see why Russian Federation "wouldn't" be responsible for interference.
"Yes, I wanted him to win because he spoke of normalization of Russian-US ties", Putin said. Trump said he would be taking meetings and calls while at the resort.
Trump also said Monday that Putin's denial of meddling in the election was 'very powerful'.
