"I feel unwanted and think that what I have achieved since my global debut in 2009 has been forgotten".
He, Ilkay Gundogan and Turkish global Cenk Tosun were photographed meeting the Turkish president at an event in London on 14 May, leading to widespread criticism in the German press.
Six hours after making his stance clear on the controversial photograph, Ozil said that the treatment he has received from DFB (German Football Association) and many others "makes me no longer want to wear the German national team shirt".
DFB president Reinhard Grindel was the focus of the third and final part of the statement, as Ozil hit out at the official, claiming: "I will no longer stand for being a scapegoat for his incompetence and inability to do his job properly".
"For me, having a picture with President Erdogan wasn't about politics or elections, it was about me respecting the highest office of my family's country", he added in his statement. Attitudes like theirs simply do not reflect the players they supposedly represent.
In those nine years, Ozil has played 92 times for his country, scoring 23 goals along the way. He also accused the DFB president of racism, stating that "I am German when we win, but I am an immigrant when we lose".
The German soccer team failed to make it out of the group stage of this year's World Cup in Russian Federation, making their earliest tournament exit in 80 years.
After the tournament, Ozil came in for stinging criticism by DFB officials and German politicians across the spectrum.
Ozil said earlier that he was true to both his Turkish and German origins and insisted he did not intend to make a political statement by appearing with Erdogan.
Germany has previously criticised the Turkish leader's crackdown on political dissent following a failed coup.
The Manchester City forward later said the meeting had no political intentions, but Ozil had not spoken about the event until now.
Ozil said he could not accept "German media outlets repeatedly blaming my dual-heritage and a simple picture for a bad World Cup on behalf of an entire squad". "Whatever the outcome would've been in this previous election, or the election before that, I would have still taken the picture".
