Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen claims he was present when Donald Jr. told his father about the Russians' offer to meet, and Trump approved it.
President Donald Trump's former personal attorney is prepared to tell federal investigators that the president knew in advance about a June 2016 meeting where Russians were expected to offer damaging information about Hillary Clinton, CNN reported, citing unnamed sources. While Cohen has no evidence to back up his allegation, he's reportedly willing to make that assertion to Robert Mueller, special counsel for the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
Since then, Trump and his new lawyer Rudy Giuliani have repeatedly attacked Cohen publicly. Gee, I wonder if they helped him make the choice!'
Trump also mocked Mueller's team on Friday for sifting through his social media postings as part of a wide-ranging investigation into alleged ties between the Kremlin and the president's campaign organization.
President Trump and his son have denied that Trump knew in advance of the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting. Donald Trump Jr.'s attorney Alan Futerfas issued a statement Thursday saying Trump Jr.
Cohen is under federal investigation in NY for his business dealings.
Giuliani went for Cohen during the interview, calling him "an incredible liar, who has a tremendous motive to lie".
Trump. Jr. responded, "if it's what you say, I love it", and started to arrange the meeting. The former NY mayor said in an interview late Thursday with The Post that Cohen "isn't credible at all, and there are witnesses who know what he's claiming isn't true".
That would contradict Trump Jr.'s testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee previous year, in which he said his father didn't know of the meeting. They point to a series of phone calls Trump Jr. made to a blocked phone number before and after the meeting.
In another tweet, he again denied any collusion with Moscow and denounced the Mueller probe as a witch hunt.
"I think you're going to find it very informative and very, very interesting", Trump said.
If this story wasn't about Jr. seeking dirt, it would've been about Trump campaign officials meeting with a Russian lawyer who is lobbying against US-imposed sanctions on Russia. One week later, Trump repeated that he "didn't know anything about the meeting" because "nobody told me" about it.
