England's Alastair Cook (3R) celebrates with teammates after taking the catch to dismiss India's Ajinkya Rahane for 18 on the second day of the second Test cricket match between England and India at Lord's Cricket Ground in London on 10 August 2018.
Woakes, recalled in place of fellow pace-bowling all-rounder Ben Stokes, omitted because of his ongoing trial for affray, removed India captain Kohli (23) and Hardik Pandya (11) in extraordinary fashion on his way to two for 19 in six overs.
Earlier, on the Day 2, English skipper Joe Root opted to bowl after winning the toss and invited India to bat first.
Presumably wondering whether the ball would have missed leg-stump, Jennings reviewed the decision, only for DRS to show the ball clattering into middle. But Kuldeep rarely troubled Bairstow, who cover-drove him for four to complete a 76-ball fifty featuring seven boundaries. England's record run-scorer made a fluent start to his innings but was beaten all ends up by Ishant Sharma and nicked behind.
WICKET! Keaton Jennings has been trapped by Mohammed Shami.
The tourists were buoyed by Root's dismissal but any suggestion of a batting collapse was dismissed in the afternoon session as Bairstow and Woakes combined brilliantly.
Team India will look to bounce back strongly on Day 3 of the second Test against England at Lord's.
It was Shami - once again - that prevented further damage as he took advantage of Buttler's tendency to walk across his stumps to pick up another LBW.
This was a day in three parts - all interspersed by showers - with the first dominated by Anderson, the second by a horrendous run-out of Cheteshwar Pujara and the third by Woakes and Anderson again.
Having come together shortly after lunch with England struggling at 131-5, Woakes (120 not out) and Jonny Bairstow (93) shared a match-changing stand of 189. He first stopped the rot for a while by adding 42 runs off just 39 balls with Buttler.
With the pitch assisting the quick bowlers and likely to do on Saturday as well, it will be interesting how much the quicks can get out of this pitch and whether or not the inclusion of Kuldeep will have a big bearing on the game or not.
