Modi said his government would launch from September 25 a previously announced medical insurance scheme, dubbed "Modicare", to give about 500 million poor people annual health cover of 500,000 rupees ($7,200) to treat serious illness.
Modi listed his government's achievements in the past four years in reforming the country's economy, reducing poverty and corruption. "If we had continued at the same pace at which toilets were being built in 2013, the pace at which electrification was happening in 2013, then it would have taken us decades to complete them", said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his over 90-minute speech on Wednesday. The same day, the country also separated from Pakistan. "The honest taxpayer of India has a major role in the progress of the nation". I am eager to provide quality of life and ease of living to country men.
"The country, land, air, sky, sea, government office, files and the process of decision-making are the same but in the last four years the country has been feeling the change".
Crime against women and women empowerment: Taking note of increasing incidents of rape, PM Modi said he will do everything to ensure justice for Indian women. Asserting that the country has progressed at an unprecedented pace in the past four years, PM Modi said, "We are proud of what we have achieved".
Modi also highlighted his clampdown on corruption, bringing electricity to more Indian villages and his reform in introducing a single national goods and services sales tax. This claim, however, has been widely criticised by farmers' groups and analysts in the past, who say it is only an eyewash as the Modi government is using a lower cost of production in its calculations.
"We are proudly celebrating Independence Day today as six women officers of the Indian Navy, circumnavigated the globe recently on the INSV Tarini", Modi said in his speech after unfurling the national flag at the Red Fort here. A lot of people raise doubts about this. We will always take decisions in the interests of our nation.
The PM also said that by 2022, an Indian will be sent to space under Mission Gaganyaan.
