The Pentagon's new report on the Chinese regime's military says that People's Liberation Army (PLA) bombers are likely training for strikes against USA and allied targets, and that a massive fleet of maritime militia controlled by Beijing is being used to support the regime's aggression in the South China Sea and beyond.
Wu urged the USA to adhere to the one-China policy and the principles of the three joint communiques, and to discreetly deal with Taiwan-related issues.
According to spokesman Lu Kang, the report published last Thursday by the U.S. Department of Defense exaggerates the so-called "Chinese threat" and the 'lack of military transparency'.
"Over the last three years, the PLA (People's Liberation Army) has rapidly expanded its overwater bomber operating areas, gaining experience in critical maritime regions and likely training for strikes against U.S. and allied targets", CNN quoted the report as saying on Thursday. China's military budget for 2017 was about $190 billion, according to the report, far behind the Pentagon's annual budget of about $700 billion.
China's efforts to strengthen modernization of its military aims at safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and development interests, as well as for safeguarding world peace, stability and prosperity.
According to the spokesman, Beijing is a facilitator of world peace, a contributor to global development and the worldwide order that always adheres to a path of peaceful development and a defensive military strategy.
The Pentagon report had also said that Beijing was seeking to develop nuclear capabilities on its long-range bombers and that China's air force has been reassigned a nuclear mission. China has reclaimed 3,200 of acres of land in the Spratly Island chain and militarized them with ports, runways and other military infrastructure.
"The Chinese military's reform, weapons development and defensive capabilities in the internet space are just and reasonable".
The report said China could increase its spending to $240 billion by 2028, The Guardian reported.
China is also restructuring ground forces to "fight and win".
To the ire of regional neighbors, China has built a series of islets and ocean features into military facilities in the South China Sea.
The Pentagon put countering China and Russian Federation at the center of a national defense strategy this year.
He called on the USA to refrain from such irresponsible reports and make efforts to maintain stable growth of relations between the two countries and their militaries.
