USA police have identified a mystery woman who was filmed ringing a doorbell in Texas in the middle of the night.
The dramatic video captured what appeared to be the woman's plea for help as she stumbled to the door of a stranger's home and rang the doorbell between 30 and 40 times.
He also urged residents to be careful when answering their doors, noting the woman could be part of a scheme rather than a victim.
She is safe and with family as the investigation continues, according to the sheriff's office.
The video was released by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office on August 26 in an effort to identify the woman and make sure she is OK.
Police said they will not publicly release the identity of the woman seen in the doorbell video, as she is a domestic violence victim. Authorities say the man was found dead from a single gunshot wound after deputies responded to a welfare call.
An unnamed neighbour told ABC News the same woman rang the doorbells of other homes in the area, but had also vanished by the time anyone answered. Another area resident, Branson Golson, told KTRK-TV, "I've got a 9-year-old daughter at home". My husband was woken up by doorbell ring.
The woman was never reported as a missing person, authorities said.
A video of the woman went viral and showed her emerging from behind a bush next to a house before walking to the front door and ringing the doorbell.
"There are some issues obviously with the video surveillance and why she was wearing those restraints and the circumstances surrounding it.""A man was found deceased inside the home", the spokesperson continued.
"The female is confirmed to be safe and with family".
In the CCTV, she can be seen wearing broken wrist restraints in an apparent state of distress as she walks up to a doorway. The fact that she hasn't turned herself in at all, and that police feel it's enough to launch an investigation, seems to imply the Sheriff's office believes this woman is in some kind of danger.
