Two of those penalties came in the first half, with the first one (a pass interference by Tony Jefferson in the end zone) setting the Bengals up at the one-yard line, which led to their first touchdown of the game. Between a completely weak effort all the way around from the defense and the offense's inability to sustain drives early in the game, coupled with extremely avoidable turnovers, quickly put Baltimore into a hole they couldn't dig themselves out of. And the Bengals were effective running the ball, too, with Joe Mixon (21 carries for 84 yards) and Giovani Bernard (6-27) averaging better than 4 yards a carry.
Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green gave the Ravens fits Thursday night with five catches for 69 yards and three touchdowns as Cincinnati improved to 2-0 with a 34-23 victory. Then Shawn Williams forced a fumble and Dre Kirkpatrick scooped it up to stop any potential Ravens comeback.
It's believed that rookie center Billy Price sprained his ankle in the second quarter and Trey Hopkins picked a heck of a time to make his debut at National Football League center with Ravens giants Brandon Williams and Michael Pierce across from him. The Ravens never led the game on Thursday night, after Green's hot start. Later, Flacco short-hopped a fourth-down pass intended for receiver Willie Snead, and he had another back-foot throw that should have been an interception dropped by Bengals defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick.
While Green's first touchdown was more about a brilliant fake by quarterback Andy Dalton, this was all about Green. Second-year UDFA Hardy Nickerson had four tackles in relief last week and will likely be looked upon to start with Brown sidelined. Plenty of times in past years they have made the playoffs with a loss at Cincinnati on their resume. Cincinnati emerged with a 34-23 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
"You better bounce back quick on a Thursday night and we didn't do it quick enough tonight", quarterback Joe Flacco said. Flacco finished 32 of 55 for 376 yards with two touchdowns, two interceptions and four sacks.
"It doesn't look to be long-term", Harbaugh said. He had five after the first two weeks in 2015 ...
A young man in a black shirt ran onto the field in the closing minutes undetected until he got near Dalton.
Mosley was diagnosed with a bone bruise after being carted off the field, and an MRI after the game revealed no ligament damage, according to coach John Harbaugh.
Bengals: Preston Brown was inactive with an injured right ankle, leaving Cincinnati without two top linebackers. DE Michael Johnson hurt his left knee in the first quarter and didn't return.
