Enten appeared on CNN's show "New Day" to discuss the Senate race in Texas, where Democrats are enthusiastic about the prospect of O'Rourke upsetting Cruz in the deep-red Lone Star State. But O'Rourke has focused heavily on courting women, Latinos and young voters, has developed a strong following on social media, and has proven to be a fund-raising dynamo, outpacing Cruz's efforts. A recent poll conducted by Quinnipiac University showed Cruz leading O'Rourke by nine points. That includes 94 percent of Cruz backers and 92 percent of O'Rourke backers. During the 2016 presidential race, the moderators reminded the audience, Mr. Trump savagely attacked Mr. Cruz as "Lying Ted", while Mr. Cruz characterized Mr. Trump as an inveterate liar himself.
"You see a lot more O'Rourke signs in affluent Republican-leaning areas than you might typically see for a Democratic candidate. I know what a sacrifice that is to his family", O'Rourke said. His campaign touts that he has visited all of Texas' 254 counties.
Cruz and O'Rouke last week agreed to three debates.
A Texas sheriff slammed Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-Texas) for making critical statements about law enforcement's treatment of African-Americans.
"The challenge for O'Rourke is to show that he is more than just a charisma candidate, that he's more than just a pretty face or an empty suit, that he really does have command of the policy issues", Wilson said.
An ex-punk rocker who has attracted glowing attention from national liberal circles for his high-energy campaign and monster fundraising, O'Rourke has been mentioned as a possible 2020 Democratic vice-presidential candidate and even a 2020 White House hopeful.
"This goes to the heart of massive policy divisions", Mr. Cruz said, noting Mr. O'Rourke opposes Mr. Kavanaugh's nomination.
"Sorry you don't like thoughts and prayers", Mr. Cruz shot back, adding he would pray for anyone at any time.
