This version of Oxygen OS is based on Android 9 Pie, which means that OnePlus 6 owners are now getting the latest version of Android, and becoming one of the first smartphones to get the update. The phone now supports beta version of the latest Android 9.0 that was made available few months ago. This is so to minimize any bugs. Hence, you need not head over to the OnePlus 6 Settings panel to manually check the update. The latest software is being rolled in stages, which means users will get the OTA notification to download the 1.5GB file Pie update in the next few days if it hasn't arrived already.
A spokesperson for OnePlus described the launch as a globally phased rollout, indicating that only users in certain countries will be getting the update today, with more regions expected to follow shortly.
So far, only Germany has been confirmed to receive the update. But it is hard to know for sure since these could all be rumors. We haven't seen any confirmation from OnePlus on social media, either, so this could potentially be a German rollout only. This new update will bring New Do Not Disturb (DND) mode with adjustable settings and new gaming mode 3.0 comprising of added text notification mode and notification for 3rd party calls.
The agency hasn't clarified any other release details, such as countries receiving the update and associated timelines.
This new update will hopefully let OnePlus compete directly with Google Pixel phones, as frequent updates in one of the key demands of most consumers.
