US President Donald Trump accuses Beijing of bids to interfere with the upcoming congressional elections, saying its efforts are motivated by opposition to his tough trade policy. On September 18, Trump sent a tweet alleging that China had "openly stated" it was trying to interfere in USA elections by targeting Trump's voter base-farmers, ranchers, and industrial workers-with its retaliatory tariffs.
Trump told a UN Security Council (UNSC) meeting on Wednesday that Beijing was interfering in the November 6 mid-term elections because it opposes his tough stance on trade.
At a news conference Wednesday in NY, a reporter asked Trump what evidence he has to back up the accusation, which China has denied.
In a freewheeling and at times wild press conference late last night, the USA president also revealed that he had snubbed Justin Trudeau, the Canadian prime minister, during their visit to the United Nations - saying that relations with Canada were not good, and raising the spectre of collapsing Nafta.
Mr Trump has himself previously claimed on his Twitter feed that China "are actively trying to impact and change our election by attacking our farmers, ranchers and industrial workers due to their loyalty to me".

But, in a press briefing in Beijing on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said Beijing does not interfere in other countries' internal affairs.

Addressing the UN Security Council this afternoon, Mr Trump said Beijing was meddling in the upcoming vote because America is "winning on every level" in the trade war between the two countries.
Trump made the charged claim with members of the Chinese delegation, including Foreign Minister Wang Yi, sitting three seats down.
"We reject the ideology of globalism and we embrace the doctrine of patriotism", Trump said. "We refuse to accept any unwarranted accusations against China".
Following his own remarks at the U.N. Security Council meeting on Wednesday, Trump told reporters, "We have evidence".
The State Department sanctioned a senior PLA general last week prompting the Chinese military to cut off talks and cancel a scheduled port visit by a USA warship to Hong Kong.
