Scott Wilson, an actor whose subtle portrayals of crooks, criminals and smooth-talking killers drew critical acclaim in movies such as "In the Heat of the Night" and "In Cold Blood", and who broke from type to star as a warmhearted veterinarian in the zombie television hit "The Walking Dead", died October 6 at his home in Los Angeles.
But hours before Wilson's death was announced, showrunner Angela Kang revealed that Wilson had filmed new scenes as Greene and would be making an appearance in the show's upcoming ninth season. He began his film career back in 1967 with In the Heat of the Night, and would go on to appear in roughly 50 additional films, including In Cold Blood, The Great Gatsby and Dead Man Walking.
In a statement, per Deadline, AMC said Wilson "will always be remembered as a great actor and we all feel fortunate to have known him as an even better person".
Although Coates and Wilson never appeared together in a movie or TV show, the two did appear at conventions together.
No details about Wilson's cause of death have been released.
"We are very excited to bring the show and the mobile game together with the exclusive missions in The Walking Dead: Our World".
The first full half of season nine completed filming. Wilson's character was killed in a shocking fashion during season 4. Scott Wilson will be greatly missed.
Wilson played Hershel Greene from 2010 to 2014 in The Walking Dead.
"Scott Wilson was simply the finest actor and more importantly the finest and most decent man I ever knew".
As the day continues towards the show's newest season, Wilson's fellow Walking Dead alums continue to take to social media to pour on their digital memorials. It was unclear how his character would have reappeared, although many were assuming it would've been a flashback or dream sequence.
Wilson is survived by his wife, Heavenly Koh Wilson.
