Based on a generous supply of leaks, we know that Google will introduce at least five new products: Two new phones, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, a new Chromecast device for watching web content on a TV, and a rumored Google Home Hub, the first Google smart speaker with a touchscreen to compete with Amazon's Echo Show.
The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL phones offer significant upgrades to prior models by adding a almost edge-to-edge screen on the larger model, more display area on both phones, faster processors and an improved camera.
But what about this years?
It allows the Pixel phones to cover much of the functionality of the Home Hub.
However, it wasn't clear if these refer to different sizes, designs, or if there will be a version with 4G and one with just Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. "We also added a feature for those of us who are on call to answer tech questions for our less-savvy family members that lets you control multiple homes", Google said in a blog post. The Pixel 3 underscores this position even further with both the 6.3-inch 3 XL and the standard 5.5-inch 3.
As you may have gathered, there are two Pixel 3 devices launching this year. Camera improvements thanks to AI are found throughout the entire photography experience on the Pixel 3.
A rounded fingerprint sensor and a single camera sensor also sit on the back of both devices. Utilising Google's imaging AI, Night Sight automatically colours and balances a photo to what it should look like.
Although Google did not make any announcements about it on-stage, there's a new Chromecast. That is, if you're interested in getting cozy with robots in the first place. This means you can now use your Pixel and Google Assistant to make calls for you to local establishments, at least in the U.S. that is. On many Android phones and tablets, you can swipe up or down from the home screen to reveal all of your apps. We're glad to have it back though.
A new Pixel Stand for wireless charging was also unveiled Tuesday, priced at $79. Instead of relegating your frequently used app icons to the lower-left corner of the screen like Windows does, Chrome now displays them prominently in the bottom center of the screen.
Pricing for the Pixel 3 phone starts at $799 and the Pixel 3 XL starts at $899, significantly cheaper than Apple's high-end iPhones, which start at $999 and $1,099 for the Xs and Xs Max, respectively. Pixel Slate will go on sale in the US and Canada later this year, Google said.
You can purchase the 3rd Gen Chromecast from the Google Store here.
One of the biggest differences present this year is the fact the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL support wireless charging.
Plenty of details about the new smartphones have appeared online, although Google has sought to poke fun at the rumours.
