The first new non-stop flight between Singapore and NY departed Changi International Airport on 11 October 2018 at 2337hrs (SIN time) and arrived at Newark Liberty International Airport 17 hours and 52 minutes later.
Distance between Singapore and NY is 16737 km.
Singapore Airlines' flight is blocked out at 18 hours, 25 minutes in the direction from Singapore to Newark, and an astonishing 18 hours, 45 minutes on the return.
Flights will cover a distance of approximately 9,000nm (16,700km), and travelling time will be up to 18hrs 45min.
Singapore Airlines launched the same non-stop route between Changi and Newark in 2004, but by 2013 the carrier was forced to cancel it. Yes, there is no economy class.
The Airbus A350-900ULR departed SIN with 150 passengers and 17 crew members onboard.
The ULR in the plane's name stands for "ultra-long-haul" because the jet is capable of flying over 1,800 miles farther than the standard A350-900 variant.
Airbus developed the latest model for extra-long flights. For passengers, the biggest problem is how they spend their time: they will have a rich menu, many movies, but they will also need a lot of patience.
Singapore's A350-900ULR feature a special two-class layout that features only 161 seats split between business class and premium economy. There are no first-class or economy sections. The 15,000 km trip will take an estimated 19 hours. All business class tickets have sold out and only a limited number of premium economy are still available, a representative for the airline company tells the media outlet.
Here's hoping that they've got some decent in-flight entertainment.
Premium economy seats are spread across a single cabin in the back in a mostly 2-4-2 pattern. "This is a route between two massive financial hubs, and so they will fill this plane up with business people, or well-heeled travelers who want the convenience of a non stop flight". While the size of the seat is the same - 38 inches (96cm) of pitch and 19 inches (48cm) wide - a new calf rest has been added to increase comfort. They recline to fully lie-flat beds that are six-and-a-half feet long.
As Singapore Airlines takes delivery of more of the A350-900ULRs it has ordered from Airbus, the flight schedules will evolve.
The flight will run three times per week. Qantas Airlines launched a 17-hour non-stop service between Perth and London - a distance of almost 15,000 kilometers - earlier this year. Flight SQ22 will depart Singapore at 12:40am and arrive the same day at 6:30am.
