The body has been sent for an autopsy.
The grandmother of a toddler who was found stabbed and baked in an oven has been charged with first-degree murder.
The child was living with Jones at the time of the murder, police said. "I've been from St. Louis to here and some of the most horrific scenes that I've seen in law enforcement involve children".
Strain says officials are still investigating the girl's cause of death, as well as when the girl may have died. Accompanying the sheriff is Chief Deputy Gerald Wesley Jr.
Sheriff Williams added: 'The Bolivar County Sheriff's Office is working in conjunction with the Shaw Police Department, the Bolivar County District Attorney's office, the Bolivar County Coroner's office, and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation to collect all the evidence so that we can ensure justice for this innocent victim.
Williams said Jones's brother found the body Monday night and called police in Shaw, a tow of about 2,000 people approximately 100 miles northwest of Jackson.
Authorities were less clear on what led up to the death.
The child was found inside of the oven in the residence, ' Williams said.
Mitchell didn't immediately return a phone call and an email seeking comment Tuesday. Williams said those toys had belonged to the child.
Neighbors told reporters that they rarely saw anybody leave or enter the home. "She didn't ask to be here", neighbor Tomorrow Williams told WMC-TV.
Investigators said a relative found the toddler inside an oven. Terri Robinson pleaded guilty to murder in 2012 in the death of Tristan Robinson.
