After a Friday night slate that featured an excellent nationally televised game in each conference, things took a bit of a step back for the following day's slate of games.
After Boston's 103-101 victory over the Knicks, the 26-year-old guard said ny is a "special place" and he thought about what it would be like to play with a young core under Knicks coach David Fizdale.
"Every team was under consideration but obviously New York held a special place for me", Irving said, via the New York Daily News. "To be so young, to be so poised is an awesome trait for him".
Whatever the two worked on clearly has worked, as the second-year forward is looking like a seasoned veteran on the court.
"He should've made the dunk", Irving said. "It's game two, but you know, I appreciate the support".
Irving finished the night with 16 points on 5-for-16 shooting with five assists against the Knicks. They had trouble getting the ball inbounded from the sideline, and Knicks guard Trey Burke had to race into the backcourt to retrieve it as the clock ran down. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Hardaway tied the score at 89-89 with 4:14 remaining. But Burke missed the first free throw.
"It's a little too early", Leonard said about the praise (via Sportsnet). Then again, there is still a lot of time between now and the offseason, so until pen is put to paper, anything can happen, I guess.
Leonard played in only nine games for the San Antonio Spurs last season, mostly because of a quadriceps injury.
Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 24 points for the Knicks, who lost rookie Kevin Knox to a sprained left ankle in the first quarter.
On Saturday night, they were just good enough to beat the rebuilding Knicks. They project to have over $30 million in cap space, so there's room to sign one of these players or any other maximum contract players that leave their current teams. Jaylen Brown was only 2 for 9, finishing with seven points.
