"I get it, you wanted an Indian woman, but Elizabeth Warren failed her DNA test", she told the crowd. "Actually, when the president found out that I was Indian American, he asked me if I was from the same tribe as Elizabeth Warren".
Among other jokes, Haley also shared a piece of advice President Trump gave her: "he said if I get stuck for laughs, just brag about his accomplishments-it really killed at the United Nations, I gotta tell you".
Outgoing U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley tried her hand at stand-up comedy-and presidential rhetoric-at the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner in New York Thursday night. At a news conference, Trump said that opposition to Kavanaugh was "being perpetuated by some very evil people - some of them are Democrats, I must say."It's impossible - like, literally impossible - given that recent context to think that Haley is referring to anyone other than her almost-ex-boss".
President Trump has long ridiculed Senator Warren's claim of Native American heritage by calling her 'Pocahontas'.
The outgoing UN Ambassador joked that President Trump didn't know the difference between Indian and Native American, and managed to get jibes in about Hillary Clinton and House Speaker Paul Ryan. So she did, taking aim at Trump's last United Nations speech and his controversial immigration policy.
Haley, who was once the Republican governor of SC, brought the amusing while at the annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, named after the former NY governor who was the first Catholic to receive a major party nomination for president when he ran in 1928.
"In America, our political opponents are not evil", she pointed out, noting that crimes committed against political opponents in Syria and Sudan are real instances of evil.
"The president called me this morning and gave me some good advice, he said if I get stuck for laughs just brag about his accomplishments".
Setting up her speech, she said many people called to advise her on what she should say. "In North Korea, where American student Otto Warmbier was tortured to death-that was evil", Haley said.
Haley continued, with Trump still in her cross-hairs. But, she also knows that there are lots and lots of Republicans who are already done with Trump and, if they aren't right now, likely will be by 2020 and certainly by 2024.
Haley also poked fun at Mayor de Blasio and NY liberals.
