Considering this success story, its weird that Apple has neglected the MacBook Air for so many years. It's late to the game, sure, but now that it is here and with the holiday season upon us, Apple is likely going to sell a lot of these in the coming months.
The updated notebook is still called the MacBook Air and still features a 13.3-inch display, but the borders surrounding that screen are dramatically smaller-"50% narrower", according to Apple-and the aluminum bezels that adorned the last MacBook Air are gone. Under the hood you'll find 8th Gen Intel dual-core CPU with integrated graphics, up to 16GB of memory, up to 1.5TB SSD.
It's also got TouchID - Apple's fingerprint scanner - which the company says can be used to log in quicker and pay for things using Apple Pay. Two USB-C ports have been included.
In terms of carry weight, the new MacBook Air weighs just 2.75 pounds. The most affordable Retina-display Mac ever also includes an Apple-designed keyboard, a spacious Force Touch trackpad, faster SSDs, wide stereo sound, the Apple T2 Security Chip and Thunderbolt 3, making the new MacBook Air the flawless notebook to take with you everywhere you go.
The MacBook Air was always supposed to be ultra light and super portable and the new model delivers. The new MacBook Air's trackpad is 20% larger than its predecessor, and it also features Force Touch. Its screen has 4 million pixels, says Apple. Apple said the new Mac Mini was up to five times faster than the previous generation, which is often used as a small macOS server. There are three thunderbolt ports in the new MacBook Air.
Inside, you get Apple's T2 security chip and an SSD controller, giving you more security and on-the-fly data encryption than any rival laptop. Additionally, Apple claims its latest Retina Display renders 48% more color.
How much will this new MacBook Air cost?
However, the previous MacBook Air may never have achieved its legendary battery life figures if not for that highly-tuned (if awfully muddled) display resolution. That base level configuration starts at $1,199. Another highlight feature is Touch ID, which is now found on as a key on the keyboard, and powered by the company's T2 chip.
