Twitter was quick to point out, however, that Wilson overlooked a number of plus-size actresses who've starred in romantic comedies before.
Rebel Wilson stirred up controversy last week when she claimed she was the first plus-sized actress to star in a romantic comedy film, and now she's apparently blocked so many critics over the questionable comment to spawn a #RebelWilsonBlockedMe hashtag.
'Hey my sweet sister. Technically those films are catorgorized/billed as a studio rom-com with a sole lead.
Instead of admitting her gaffe and moving on, though, it appears that Wilson is blocking people who've pointed out her mistake on Twitter.
At the time, Rebel doubled down and replied that there is a "slight grey area" in the debate, causing more friction with the online community and a reaction from Mo'Nique herself.
It wasn't long before Mo'Nique herself got involved requesting Rebel "not allow this business to erase [their] talent with giving grey areas and technicalities". Take a moment and know the history. Film critic ReBecca Theodore-Vachon summed up the deeper problem of Wilson's claim and behavior succinctly, saying, "Black women's bodies don't matter when it comes to White women like Rebel Wilson".
'I support all plus-size ladies and everything positive we are doing together, ' the actress concluded.
Reflecting: She finished: "I blocked people on Twitter because I was hurting from the criticism, but those are the people I actually need to hear from more, not less".
