On Thursday afternoon, California fire officials say the fire had expanded to about 18,000 acres, but its true size is hard to pinpoint because of heavy smoke, which can be seen from miles away. She and her husband grabbed their dog, jumped in their pickup truck and drove through flames before getting to safety, she said. Other patients were taken to Oroville Hospital in the city of Oroville.
One Paradise resident who fled the encroaching blaze told the Bee: "It was so hot". "There are dozens of strike teams that we're bringing in from all parts of the state".
At the hospital in Paradise, more than 60 patients were evacuated to other facilities and some buildings caught fire and were damaged.
The Camp Fire has burned more than 5,000 acres and is still very active as it is wind driven.
Hospital spokeswoman Jill Kinney said all patients were evacuated.
