Now Trump suggests that reporters will risk their credentials if they do not treat the White House and the presidency with "respect". In the meantime, Acosta has continued to report without physical access to the White House grounds; he is now in Paris to cover Trump's trip to France.
The sparring started after Acosta asked Trump about the caravan of migrants heading from Latin America to the southern USA border.
CNN released its own statement about reporter, Phillip stating that she did not "ask a "stupid" question today at the White House". If there is one thing that Trump knows well, it's how to get ratings, a fact that CBS Chairman Les Moonves once testified to when he said that "it may not be good for America" but Trump is "damn good" at getting viewers. "She shouldn't be. You've got to treat the White House and the office of the presidency with respect". The White House News Photographers Association has called the footage "deceptive, dangerous, and unethical", and of course, if true, such a manipulation would be an egregious violation of governmental and journalistic practices.
Unprompted, Trump brought up April Ryan, the White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks, who doubles as a CNN analyst.
"Those words are bad from a sitting United States president, versus someone who has been covering presidents before he came, and probably after he leaves", she said on CNN. We will not tolerate the inappropriate behavior clearly documented in this video. It's a very special place.
Looking back at Mr Acosta, who again rose up in his own defense, Mr Trump added: "When you report fake news, which CNN does a lot, you are the enemy of the people". "What a stupid question", Trump snapped.
At Friday's Q&A session, Trump also had sharp words for CNN White House correspondent Abby Phillip.
"I think Jim Acosta is a very unprofessional man".
Much of this was based on a story from the Washington Post that called it "doctored" and one from the Associated Press which quoted an independent expert who also said it was doctored. "She doesn't know what the hell she is doing".
"I watch you a lot".
