Patriots offered DE Bruce Irvin more money before he signed with Falcons

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks and Pittsburgh Penguins all expressed interest in Irvin once he cleared waivers, but he elected to reunite with Falcons head coach Dan Quinn, who was his defensive coordinator in Seattle from 2013-2014.

Neither the team nor Irvin revealed the financial details of the deal, but Irvin told ESPN he passed up more lucrative offers for the chance to play for Atlanta.

Irvin received few snaps for the Raiders before his release. "I'm frustrated. He's a good player". If the Falcons offense continues doing its job and the defense plays as well as it has lately, the playoffs are in no ways out of reach for this team. Irvin is a competitor, so being gifted the opportunity to join a team which will utilize his skill set and is looking to contend is a huge win for him. The Seahawks have two guys who can get to the opposing quarterback now: Frank Clark and Jarran Reed.

"Sometimes the things have to align just right for that to happen", Quinn said of the signing. But the Falcons have won three in a row since then and still have the talent to get back in the wild-card race. Irvin had three sacks with Oakland but recently had been on the field only in the te am's nickel defence.

He set a career high with six forced fumbles in 2016.

Irvin recorded 18 sacks in two-plus seasons with the Raiders. At 1-7 on the season and being outscored by almost two touchdowns per game, things continue to go from bad to worse. The Steelers have been feast or starvation when it comes to rushing the passer.

He's played with the Seahawks and Raiders in his seven years in the league with his best year coming last year with Oakland when he had 58 tackles and eight sacks.
