That friction largely came from Kohli's claims that Smith had misused the DRS system in the Bengaluru Test. Smith had been warned by umpires about looking toward the viewing area for advice. As long as it (sledging) does not start, we are fine just focusing on the game. We played good cricket, but the mistakes were also very extreme, that's why we lost that many number of games rather than wining those moments and winning the games. They are absolutely free to voice their opinion but we can't stop living life, we cannot stop doing things that we feel are organic, nothing is made up here, nothing is created, nothing is happening in a fake way.
Former Australian cricket team captain Steve Waugh has said that he is not sure whether the current Indian team led by skipper Virat Kohli is better than the ones he has played against during his times in the Australian team.
"If we look at the England tour, apart from Lord's, we didn't get bundled out in a Test".
"These are very personal things that happen within the team environment and things that conveniently need to be put out there are put out there", Kohli said. "As far as one-day cricket goes, we will try and play the 15 that will go to the World Cup". We are not going to take a banner and say "this is what happens in the Indian team".
There has been a general perception in the public that ever since India's head coach Ravi Shastri has taken over from Anil Kumble in 2017 middle, he has been a "yes man" to the captain Virat Kohli, that he only says "come on boys", "well played" and doesn't give catches at practice sessions like other coaches usually do.
"I definitely believe our fitness levels are up, which is the most important thing in Australia because pitches can sometimes become very boring there", he added.
Kohli, never one to step back against aggressive opposition, emphasised: "We were always the ones giving it back, we were not the ones starting anything".
"Now being captain of the team, you have no room for anything else but to think of what the team wants all the time". You don't find the need for all that.
Kohli also praised Shastri's man-management skills. He is one guy whom I can speak to and get an honest opinion. "I don't think there has been anyone who has said no to me than him [Ravi Shastri] in Indian cricket", he added. We don't have too many games now.
