Denver had lost six of their last seven going into Sunday's game against Los Angeles, but Chargers coach Anthony Lynn kept warning everyone that the Broncos were unsafe because they had been in most of their games until the final minute.
"We're frustrated", running back Melvin Gordon said. I can understand players saying that about their own team. It was McManus's first field goal since missing a game-winning boot against the Texans in Week 9.
"No, I don't think they played well at all". The plan going into the game was for Bosa to see 20 plays. Mike Badgley, who made three field goals, also missed an extra point that ended up looming large. "He had good speed and explosion plus he came out of it healthy", Lynn said.
Phillip Lindsay was the offensive standout of the match for Denver, as he rushed for 79 yards and 2 touchdowns on 11 carries. They put up 479 total yards to 325. They allowed a fake punt for the second straight week, which Lynn said was unacceptable. "We know we could've won this, should've won this game".
Three plays earlier, Von Miller swung momentum back in Denver's favor when he picked off Rivers on a screen pass and returned it 40 yards to the Chargers' 18.
"The interception turned the game around, to me".
Other than the two turnovers, Rivers had a big day, finishing 28-of-43 for 401 passing yards, with two touchdown passes.
The Los Angeles Chargers remain in strong position for a playoff spot at 7-3, but injuries on defense and special teams struggles are concerns for coach Anthony Lynn. The Chargers then scored on their opening drive of the second half when Rivers threw a 6-yard TD to Antonio Gates. He is also the fifth-fastest player to reach 100 career sacks among players who began their careers in 1982 or later.
The Los Angeles Chargers defensive end is expected to make his season debut on Sunday against the Denver Broncos, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The third-year lineman did not start but was in on pass-rushing situations.
The Chargers' struggles on special teams will require more shuffling. Lindsay will likely lead the way again when the Broncos host the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 12. The Chargers will stay at home against Arizona at 4:05 p.m.
